Première – AVA MENDOZA “THIRD LANDING”

Ava Mendoza was born thousands of miles away from the heart of improvisational music, then throbbing in downtown Manhattan, beating to the sounds of John Zorn, Fred Frith, and Carla Bozulich. Nevertheless, Mendoza was mysteriously attracted to the avant-garde scene in college, on the West Coast. A guitarist, singer, and composer, she moved to Brooklyn in 2013, and started her own band, Third Landing, at the Vision Festival in 2021. Post-rock, free jazz, and poetry forge her unique sound, an experiment in building new musical bridges. While Mendoza plays, Last Poets pioneer Abiodun Oyewole speaks the verbal truth that propels the Third Landing into the eloquence of the future.
